Glossary/Blockchain

Blockchain

A type of distributed ledger that holds transaction data in "blocks" which are cryptographically linked and secured.

Each block contains a batch of validated transactions plus a cryptographic hash of the previous block, which makes past records effectively tamper-evident. Blockchains let strangers agree on a shared history — of money, assets, or program state — without a central operator.
